September is second highest month on record for cash deposits

6.71 million cash deposits were made at post offices across the UK in September 2025, according to new figures released today (22 October). It is the second highest monthly figure on record, just behind the 6.76 million cash deposits made in July this year, a record-breaking month.

September’s deposit volume was up 4.6% month-on-month (6.42 million, August 2025) and up significantly (10.1%) year-on-year (6.1 million, September 2024).

Business and personal customers deposited a combined total of £2.87 billion in September, which was up 3.6% on the previous month (£2.77 billion, August 2025) and up 8.5% on last year’s figure (£2.65 billion, September 2024). This is the second highest monthly deposit value to date, just behind the record £2.94 billion deposited by customers in July.

Business and personal customers made 7.23 million withdrawals in September, up slightly (1.1%) on August figures (7.15 million, August 2025) and up again (3.1%) year-on-year (7.02 million, September 2024).

Both business and personal customers made withdrawals worth £1.01 billion in September, the third highest month on record behind July 2025 and December 2024. September’s numbers were up 2.7% on the previous month (£983.21 million, August 2025). Again, there was a strong rise (11.7%) against the value of withdrawals in September 2024 (£903.89 million, September 2024).

Together, withdrawals and deposits across UK totalled £3.88 billion in August. This was up against last month (£3.76 billion, August 2025) and up again year-on-year (£3.55 billion, September 2024).

Benjamin Hunter Woollard, Head of Banking at Post Office, said: “September is the second highest month on record for deposits at Post Office, both in terms of the number of deposits and also their combined value. It’s great to see customers increasingly choose their local post office as a safe and convenient place to carry out their banking transactions. Our postmasters are on hand across the UK to provide that trusted, face-to-face service which we know so many people still value.”
