The official opening of Woolwich Post Office was marked by Councillor Jackie Smith - Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Business, Greenwich Supports and Environmental Services, who “cut the ribbon”.
Highly experienced postmaster Manish Garg has opened the Post Office and brand-new shop called Stationeries & Gifts at 102 Powis Street, London, SE18 6LQ, which is a store selling stationery, gifts, cards and photo services.
This has restored vital services to this area of Woolwich after the previous branch at nearby 68-72 Powis Street shut in April 2025, due to the closure of the store where it was based.
Cllr Smith wanted to show her support for Woolwich Post Office, which offers a very wide range of Post Office services for residents, businesses and visitors.
Pictured either side of Cllr Jackie Smith cutting the ribbon are the owners Manish and Kriti Garg, who are very experienced at running Post Offices.
Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Business, Greenwich Supports and Environmental Services, said: “We are getting things done in Woolwich and the opening of the new post office marks one of many improvements to the area. Woolwich is one of our busiest areas and it is vital that people have a face-to-face service. As a councillor and a local resident, I wholeheartedly welcome its arrival.”
The council’s support in bringing a new post office to Woolwich included funding towards the fit out as well as working closely with British Land to facilitate its return and the jobs it will create.
Woolwich Post Office is open daily for the convenience of customers. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday: 9am - 5.30pm; Sunday: 11am – 4pm. This provides 56 hours of service a week. There are three main Post Office counters and one at the retail counter.
New counters at the branch.
Manish Garg, who has been a postmaster for nearly 20 years, started with a branch in Crofton Park. Today he has three branches including Eltham and Blackheath Village.
With his wife, Kriti, they will manage their three stores. There are two familiar faces that worked at the previous Woolwich Post Office inside the WHSmith store and other experienced staff from their other branches, and new staff.
Postmaster Manish Garg said: “Customers really missed Woolwich Post Office when it closed. The community is very excited that this Post Office branch, which offers so many Post Office services is open again and we are proud of our great-looking shop too. Kriti and I, and our staff are really looking forward to serving the people of Woolwich.”
As well as Royal Mail and Parcelforce services, Woolwich offers DPD buy in branch for sending and collecting parcels. With more bank closures it’s also a very useful place for people to do their personal and business banking, and bill payments.
There’s also a full range of travel currencies on demand, Post Office travel money card services. Customers can renew their vehicle tax and there are ID verification services.
Post Office Area Change Manager, Noah Rai, said: “We know how important a Post Office is to a community, and we are delighted to have restored vital Post Office services, inside this wonderful-looking shop. Highly experienced post office couple Manish and Kriti Garg know how to run first class branches.”
