Post Office deploys first new-build CViT vehicles
On 13 January, Post Office’s Cash and Valuables in Transit (CViT) team in Swansea received the keys to three of the organisation’s first new-build CViT vehicles. The vehicles will serve postmasters and commercial clients across South Wales, supporting essential banking and cash services on the high street.
This milestone marks the start of Post Office’s ambitious rollout of 167 new-build CViT vehicles over the next two years, 47 of which will be fully electric with the others conforming to the highest emissions standards (Euro 6)
The investment represents the largest upgrade of the CViT fleet in more than 15 years and forms a core part of Post Office’s commitment to reducing emissions across its supply chain operations.
Modern design, developed with driver input
The new vehicles feature updated exterior branding that highlights Post Office’s key services—Banking, Posting, Travel Money, Insurance and Identity Services —aligning with the look and feel of the organisation’s next-generation branches. The design process was a collaboration between Post Office’s branding and marketing teams, with extensive input from CViT drivers to refine layout, usability, and functionality. The vehicles have undergone an 18‑month development process, with seven prototype variants tested before the final specification was approved. Early feedback from CViT crews has been highly positive, praising improvements in comfort, safety and operational efficiency.
Supporting critical national infrastructure
Post Office’s CViT operation provides secure, 24/7 transportation of cash, coins and valuables across branches, retail outlets and corporate clients. Completing over 10,000 services per week, CViT plays a vital role in the UK’s cash and banking infrastructure and contributes to national contingency planning.
Post Office plans to replace 85% of its existing CViT fleet in the next two years as it looks to increase capacity and grow revenue within supply chain operations. Post Office believe that this expansion will position them as a trusted logistics partner for more financial institutions requiring secure, point‑to‑point movement of high‑value items.
Russell Hancock, Post Office Supply Chain Director, said:
“This rollout follows the Banking Framework 4 agreement, and will strengthen our role in supporting everyday banking services for customers and communities. It also provides a major opportunity to grow our secure logistics offering and offer it more widely. Post Office currently delivers services for Bank of Ireland and Royal Mail, but our aim is to expand further. CViT is central to that ambition. These new vehicles ensure we have the right fleet—modern, efficient and capable—to move cash securely, cost‑effectively and reliably across the UK.”
