Post Office appoints new Non-Executive Director to Board

Post Office has appointed Jonathan Slater to its Board, as a Non-Executive Director.

Mr Slater brings 20 years’ experience in large scale public service reform to the Post Office Board. His expertise will complement the Board’s skillset as it drives forward Post Office’s transformation to deliver a ‘new deal for postmasters’.

Mr Slater was previously the Permanent Secretary at the Department for Education and has held Director General positions at the Cabinet Office, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Justice. Between 2001 and 2006, he was a Director in the Cabinet Office, including in the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit. Prior to working across the civil service, he spent 10 years in local government and started his career at the British Railways Board.

He has previously sat on Boards for the Institute for Government, Morley College and the University of Sheffield Hallam, and currently chairs a multi-academy trust. Mr Slater is a Visiting Professor at King’s College London and Queen Mary’s University London.

Nigel Railton, Post Office Chair, said: “I am pleased to welcome Jonathan to the Post Office Board. His experience of managing complex reforms in the public sector across multiple Whitehall government departments will be a valuable addition to our team as we continue to transform the Post Office.”

Commenting on his appointment, Jonathan Slater said: “I’m delighted to join Post Office as a Non-Executive Director at such a pivotal time for the organisation. Post Office has a vital social purpose in communities across the UK and I’m looking forward to sharing my experience with the Board to safeguard those services for the future.”
