Post Office Welcomes Royal Mail's Announcement On Sunday Services

- More than 1,000 Post Office branches now open on Sundays for customers’ convenience
- Over 2,000 modernised branches offer extra 60,000 opening hours a week

The Post Office, now independent of Royal Mail, welcomed Royal Mail’s announcement on Sunday services.

Mark Davies, director of communications at the Post Office, said: ‘The Post Office now has more than 1,000 Post Office branches open on Sundays, with more on the way, offering greater flexibility to customers and responding to the huge growth in online shopping.

‘We are also open much longer – more than 2,000 of our modernised branches offer an extra 60,000 opening hours a week.

‘So, with a national network of more than 11,500 branches, we offer customers unrivalled reach in terms of accessibility and convenience and personal service, serving around 18 million people a week and a third of all small businesses.

‘Ninety-nine per cent of the population lives within three miles of a Post Office branch, making them ideal locations to provide convenient, secure parcel collection facilities.

‘No other provider can offer the same ease of access wherever people live in the UK, from city centres to rural communities.

‘With Royal Mail, we are working to build the mails business. Drop and Go for small businesses, collections and returns for individuals – these are powerful offers which are enhanced by the constant improvements in our network.

‘Last year the Post Office and Royal Mail launched the UK’s largest Click and Collect network to support online shopping growth. The service, called Local Collect, enables large online retailers to provide their shoppers with a greater choice of convenient parcel delivery options.’

Drop & Go is Post Office’s fast-track mails service. Customers using Drop & Go can simply hand over mail at their local Drop & Go Post Office. The branch swipe the pre-paid Drop & Go card, check everything is in order and the customer can leave, letting the Post Office team to deduct the postage costs from the card as they go. The service aims to save valuable time for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and other regular mailing customers such as internet sellers.
