Press release -

Post Office Travel Apps reach one million downloads

The Post Office Travel apps have hit 1 million downloads, as the Post Office makes life even more convenient for customers over the summer holiday season.

In the last fortnight alone, the Post Office Currency Converter, Travel Money Card and Travel Essentials apps have all been downloaded over 50k times, as customers get into the swing of the summer holiday season.

When asked what factors are important when deciding on a holiday, 76% of consumers (omnibus survey of 2,081 adults) said that resort costs for meals, drinks and other tourist items are important considerations.

The suite of free apps available from Post Office therefore help customers to plan and budget with ease - before, during and after their holiday; whether it’s working out how much a pizza in Rome costs, topping up a Travel Money Card to shop until you drop abroad, or monitoring and managing family holiday spending.

The apps include:

The Currency Converter app, which calculates prices and converts up to 70 currencies, uses live daily currency rates that are then stored offline - so the app works even when the internet doesn't. Buy back rates have also been added to the app, to help customers work out how much they’ll get back when they trade in their unused currency. Helping you budget before, during and after your holiday.

The Travel Money Card app, which supports the Post Office’s prepaid, reloadable MasterCard that can be used on holiday or back home, allows customers to: check their balance; view their transaction; top up their card in one or more of the 13 currencies which can be loaded onto the card; and even find the nearest cash machine or Post Office branch.

The Travel Essentials app, gives customers live exchange rates and allows them to buy at that rate before they travel. The app also includes a budgeting tool and has a built-in currency converter, both of which work offline so customers can avoid expensive phone charges while using the app abroad.

Customers can use the apps on their smartphones, tablets and Apple Watches, and Post Office is proud to be supporting customers in looking after their money on their journeys around the world.
