It's all eyes on the clocks as Porthcawl Post Office unveils new look and opening hours
- Rt. Hon. Carwyn Jones AM officially opens Porthcawl Post Office, Spar Store, 66 John Street, Porthcawl CF36 3BD on Friday, 22 November at 11am
- New Main style Post Office branch introduced
- Longer opening hours – 07:00 until 23:00 hours Monday to Saturday, and 08:00 – 22:00 on Sunday

Newly modernised Porthcawl Post Office will have an official opening ceremony on Friday, 22nd November at 11am.To celebrate the launch of the new style open-plan branch, local Assembly Member, Rt Hon Carwyn Jones, will cut the ribbon to officially re-open the Post Office. He will be joined by staff and customers of the Post Office.
Carol Pugsley, Manager of the Post Office and her team of staff have worked at the branch for many years and are well known to Post Office customers. To coincide with the launch of the new Post Office, Spar stores have renovated the shop, making it lighter and brighter for customers. A new Post Office counter has also been added next to the retail till enabling customers to transact their Post Office business any time the shop is open.
Stewert Waldron, Post Office Controller, Blakemore Retail said: “We are delighted with the refurbishment and hope both store and post office customers alike, appreciate the new modern look and more convenient opening hours of 07:00 – 23:00 Monday to Saturday and 08:00 – 22:00 on Sunday. The Post Office consists of four serving positions and an additional serving point at the retail checkout that will handle the majority of the most requested Post Office products and services outside of core Post Office opening hours; this will be a great help to our busy customers.”
Post Office Regional Manager, Adrian Wales said: “I’d like to wish Stewart, Carol and the team at Porthcawl Spar every success in their new venture. We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in the area and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”
Mr Wales added, added: “Post Office Main is a new way of delivering Post Office services, operated from a combination of screened and open plan counters in an established shop, with key Post Office products and services available alongside retail transactions during extended opening hours.”
The Post Office, now independent of Royal Mail, is the largest retail network in the UK, with over 11,500 branches. It is also one of the fastest growing financial services companies and is developing its online and telephony services.
Between 2012 and 2015, many Post Office branches across the UK will undergo significant modernisation, offering improved customer service including longer opening hours.

This change to the Post Office network is being carried out in accordance with the Code of Practice for changes to the network, as agreed with Consumer Futures, the national consumer organisation.
